How do I know which is the correct screen for my laptop? To be sure you are buying the correct screen you should check that the size and resolution are the same as the screen you are replacing. A laptop screen is measured diagonally in inches (and does not include the plastic surround). The size must be exactly the same as your old screen.

The resolution of you screen can be found in the control panel:

Windows Vista:
Control Panel > Appearance and Personalisation > Personalisation > Adjust Screen Resolution

Windows XP:
Control Panel > Appearance and Themes > Change Screen Resolution

Alternatively you can visit: www.whatismyscreenresolution.com for an immediate diagnosis.

Screen resolution is given in two ways, firstly via the number of pixels (e.g. 1280*800) and secondly by a series of letters (e.g. WXGA). Either of these will be fine as we display both on our product pages. If you are unable to find out your screen resolution (for example because you screen is cracked and you are not able to use your laptop), then please let us know prior to purchase.

What is screen resolution? Resolution is defined as the number of pixels which made up the LCD screen. A pixel is a single dot on the screen and each one is made up of three sub pixels (red, green and blue). The more pixels an LCD screen has the higher the resolution. The most common screen resolutions are shown in the table below:

Can I up grade screen resolution? Generally no. It may be possible in certain circumstances, depending on the type of video card in the laptop. We recommend you replace your LCD screen with one of the same resolution.

Why is there more than one screen option for my laptop? Generally laptops are available with different screen specs, this may be that a matte or glossy version is available, or it may be that the manufacturer makes that laptop with different screen sizes. Please select the one you need from the list available.

Why do I need to enter screen information when I add a screen to my basket? This stage of the checkout process is optional. We have it there to be certain you are being sent the correct screen. If you can double check the size and resolution before your purchase we can be sure you will get the correct screen.

Do your screens include the bezel, screws and inverter? No, we only supply the LCD panel. The bezel, screws and inverter on your laptop can all be used with the new screen we will supply.

What brand LCD screens do you supply? We supply screens from all the leading manufacturers ( e.g. AU Optronics, Che Mei, Chung Hwa, HannStar, LG, Samsung, Sharp, Quanta etc)

What is the difference between matte and glossy screens? A glossy screen is reflective when the screen is turned off and has a shinny finish. Matte screens do not reflect. Typically glossy screens are for home use and matte screens for office use (where florescent lights may cause reflective problems with a glossy screen). Laptop manufacturers have different names for glossy screens, some are listed below.

Can I upgrade to a glossy screen if my laptop came with a matte screen? Yes, you can choose a glossy or a matte screen – whichever is more appropriate for your needs.

Do I need a new laptop screen if I have lines on my screen? Probably, however it may be a problem with the video card, video cable or inverter.

Do I need a new laptop screen if my screen is dim? Possibly, however it may be a result of a faulty back light or a faulty inverter. We have found that this problem is often due to a faulty inverter. We may be able to source the new inverter for you, please contact us with requests.

Can you fit my new laptop screen? Yes, you can send your laptop to us and we will fit the screen for you and return the laptop to you. Please see our page on fitting services for more information and prices.

How do I fit my new laptop screen? You can find a guide on our fitting instructions page.
