The linchpin of a good laptop is its battery, and battery life can make or break the portable computing experience. Or, to put it another way, what’s the point in a portable system that can’t hold power? Luckily, as laptops have become a staple computer in many modern homes, their effectiveness at handling power has increased exponentially, and what’s more it looks like truly long life laptop batteries are on the horizon.
For example, it might sound like pure science fiction, but in a few years we could have 30 year long laptop chargers! This isn’t arbitrary speculation, and in fact the US Air Force Research Laboratory is developing it today. Without getting too technical, this “betavoltaic” battery will operate using radioisotopes, and will garner their power through the decay of radioactive matter.
Or what about nanotechnology? Essentially current laptop chargers or batteries can have their lives extended by the incorporation of “nanotubes” which can be used to increase the surface area of capacitor plates, thereby increasing power ad infinitum.
As laptops begin to rival desktops in terms of functionality, their hunger for power will also increase and therefore better batteries will not just be a luxury but will be instrumental in laptop development. These kinds of super batteries may be with us sooner than we think.
Whatever happens with laptop power, however, it looks like laptop chargers and laptop power cables are going to be with us for a while to come. Should you need laptop replacements or laptop spares such as chargers or laptop power cables, there’s only one place visit – Laptop Power.
