Let’s face it, laptops can get pretty grubby in their lifetimes, whether it’s a superficial build up of fingerprints on the keyboard or dust in the disk drives. Therefore, giving your laptop hardware a quick “once over” from time to time can help keep your computer looking aesthetically appealing, and will prevent your system from breaking down in the long term.
Keyboards
Unlike desktops, keyboards for laptops actually make up a considerable percentage of a laptop’s surface, and therefore much of your cleaning campaign will be focused on this area. If you want to leave your keys intact then you might consider using compressed air to blow any dust particles from between the keys. Alternatively, if you want to give your computer a thorough clean you could remove the keys with an implement such as a screwdriver, and soak them in some washing up liquid and water.
Screen
Laptop screens can get very dusty, and therefore if you want your display to perform at its optimum brightness you should give your screen an occasional dusting with a soft cloth; you should avoid rough cloths such as paper towels or tissues as these could affect the screen quality. Also, when cleaning laptop screens you should ensure that the computer is turned off and that way you will be better able to identify the dust build up.
Other Components
Additionally, you can clean other bits like disk drives and I/O ports with cotton swabs, ensuring that you don’t clean too rigorously, which could damage the delicate laptop hardware.
