The difference between a desktop computer and a laptop (apart from the portability) is the fact that a laptop can run off a battery alone. This battery, however, will eventually need to be recharged using the laptop adaptor that came with it. By plugging the adaptor into a power outlet, you can both use the laptop and charge its battery at the same time and without this adaptor, there is no safe way to charge the laptop battery.
As with most things, however, electrical components can become worn and this goes for laptop accessories too. General wear and tear can cause your laptop adaptor to cease working properly even if the damage is not visible from the outside. Laptop chargers, if not stored properly, can easily stop working. If you find that your laptop adaptor is not supplying a charge to your laptop battery, check all of the connections; make sure that it is plugged into the socket and make sure that the pin has not come out of the back of your laptop.
Occasionally, the solution is not always that simple – sometimes the internal wiring of the laptop adaptor may come lose, in which case there is not much to be done for it. The same goes for the converter in the adaptor’s sealed box – adaptors are not made to be tampered with and it can be very unsafe to try to get into the converter box to attempt to fix the problem.
The safest choice is to buy a new laptop adaptor such as the compatible ones we carry here at Laptop Power UK.
