If your laptop charger seems to have suddenly stopped working there are a few things you can do to check whether it is the charger at fault or something else. Firstly, is any power getting to your adapter? Check the fuse has not blown in the plug. Try a different power cable if you have one handy. Some adapters have a small LED indicator light on them to show that power is reaching the unit. If this light is not coming on then the charger may have developed a fault.
With the adapter plugged into your laptop, see if there is any play in the socket. There will always be some, but if your socket seems very loose or if you hold in in one particular position then the socket itself may have broken and the charger is probably OK. If you have a voltmeter in your tool box, you can use this on the adapter with the negative probe on the outside of the tip and the positive probe on the inside. If the indicator shows no current passing through then the adapter may be fault and will need to be replaced.
another way is to use your charger on a laptop that takes the same charger. Maybe a family member of neighbour has the same laptop as you. If the charger works on their laptop then your laptop may be faulty and will need to be looked at by a repair store. If you need any further help to determine if you have a charger or laptop fault, Laptop Power UK can help.
