Dell appears to be ceasing production of their core laptop adapter over the last five years, the PA-10, in favour of a new futuristic looking design, the PA-3E adapter. The PA-10 has become a familiar site in the laptop world over the last few years and has been a strong seller in the Laptop Power UK network. The PA-10 has been the adapter of choice for some of their most popular models such as the Dell Inspiron 9300 charger and the Dell
corporate machines – most notably the Dell Latitude D520 charger and the Dell Latitude D620 charger.
Mark Roughley of Laptop Power UK thinks the move by Dell may be copied by future manufacturers, with HP already looking to include proprietary technology in laptop adapters: ‘The UK laptop charger market has become littered with counterfeit equipment, which is largely being sold on Ebay and Amazon networks. The move by Dell will be welcomed by Europe’s leading IT resellers, of which Laptop Power UK is at the forefront’.
Customers need to be aware that the PA-3E is replacing the PA-10 family of chargers, and the PA-4E is replacing the PA-12 family of chargers. Whilst these chargers look similar they are not interchangeable. The PA-10 charger is a 90w charger and is used on the larger of Dell’s laptops and notebooks, whilst the PA-12 is a 65w charger
and is typically used on 15.4” laptops and smaller. If you require any advice regarding Dell laptop adapter compatibility issues, don’t hesitate to contact Laptop Power UK’s dedicated Sales Team.
