Portability means reverse logistics and warranty management become the industries of the future

February 17th, 2012

Predicting the future is a dangerous game, since nobody knows for sure what the future holds. However when it comes to the Consumer Electronics and laptop industry, a few trends are already starting to take hold with some certainty. Firstly is the drive for portability.  Smartphones and tablets are the start of a trend towards a greater demand for technology on the move. Cloud computing is a further trend, related to accessing and consuming information on the move.

There are many obvious benefits to be had from portable technologies, however some of the costs and drawbacks are increasingly beginning to be recognised. Firstly, more portability means more damage. The drive to lighter and thinner devices, and more use of devices on the move inevitably is resulting in more accidental damage and claims on product warranties.

Laptop Power UK is confident that our reverse logistics and insurance claim services are going to grow in the years to come. Warranty management is becoming increasingly expensive for retailers, insurance companies and distributors alike. With slick internal software, an unrivalled range of OEM spare parts, and a fantastic technical repair team, we encourage businesses to get their reverse logistics operations and costs under control to get in touch with us.

Make sure your laptop spares are purchased via a secure payment method

February 16th, 2012
All customers with their eyes open will have seen a proliferation in the number of ‘Chinese’ looking shell websites that are being launched in the UK. One of the things customers should be especially aware of is the payment security and encryption that is being used in a website’s checkout process.
Firstly make sure that the http address on the website is secure to make sure you connection to the website is secure. Make sure the payment gateway is legitimate and authorised with the FSA regulatory authorities. Commonly known gateways include Paypal, Sagepay and World Pay. Laptop Power UK use Sagepay on our UK website and Ogone, Europe’s leading gateway throughout our European network.
Other general advice is to make sure you are always given an invoice and a payment reference. Check that the Company is registered, and has its name and address clearly displayed on their website. Many websites purporting to be from the UK are in fact international sellers, resulting in long lead times, language barriers when it comes to sorting out problems, and also potential duty to pay since the goods received have been dispatched from abroad.

Selfridges and John Lewis begin selling laptops – who next? McDonalds?

January 27th, 2012

One of the most striking things about walking up and down the UK high street is the number of retailers who have expanding into selling laptops, netbooks and tablets. Of course PC World and Currys (DSG International) have long been the bedrock of this industry in the UK. Comet and Argos have also taken significant market share within the last five years. However now there has been a huge expansion of sellers.

First the supermarkets waded into the sector. Tesco and Asda are now huge retailers of laptops, often adopting very aggressive pricing policies. Carphone Warehouse have now also started using the selling / gifting of laptops and netbooks as part of their bundling strategies to sell a variety of long-term contracts. However this year was the introduction of premium end retailers also starting to retail laptops with John Lewis and even Selfridges entering the fray.

Whilst the selling of laptops has increased on the high street, the provision of spare parts for notebooks and laptops is still firmly on online business. People aren’t concerned on the whole with inspecting a spare part before they buy it – they just want it to be the right one. Also given the huge range of spares for laptops, even these big retailers couldn’t dedicate the floor spare required for it. Laptop Power UK likes to consider ourselves as the Marks and Spencer of the UK’s laptop parts industry. We are not the cheapest, but we are the best. We have huge customer loyalty and we encourage you to try out our service to find out why.

Laptop spares do their bit for the environment

January 16th, 2012

When it comes to doing our bit for the environment, we sleep easily at Laptop Power UK. After all, if we do our job properly and provide you with the correct laptop spare part, then our primary reason for being as an organisation is to keep your laptop running and out of the landfill site. Electronic waste is becoming an ever bigger issue and the government are becoming increasingly legislative in their approach in dealing with the problem.

First there was the Wee Directive, but more legislation is in the pipeline. The last thing the government wants is for faulty laptop chargers, cracked laptop screens and dead laptop batteries ending up in peoples’ wheelie bins.

Over the next 10 years the burden that redundant consumer electronics products are going to place on the Uk’s landfill sites is incredible. Given the slow decaying nature of these types of products it is causing a big headache for governments around the world. Anyway, if you keep your laptop running for longer by finding the correct spare part off our website, feel good about doing your little but for the environment, as well as saving yourself money on a new laptop!
