HP and Compaq laptops are well known in the industry for having problems which lead to a black laptop screen when you turn on your laptop. It seems to be far more common in these laptops than any other brand. Perhaps there is an inherent design flaw or the materials used aren’t up to scratch, perhaps it is user error. Who knows, either way if this happens to your Laptop Screen how do you know what the fault is and how do you fix it?
The first thing people will try to do is swap the Compaq NC6400 Screen. Of course once you have dont this and turned the laptop on again you will see that the problem has not been fixed. This is because this common Compaq problem lies with the Graphics Chip and not the screen itself. There is a lot of heat generated within these chips when they are working and a fan normally cools them. Over time, and if the fan is not dissipating the heat, the solder connecting this chip to the motherboard may break, stopping the graphics reaching the laptop screen. A new panel will not fix this and so a Laptop Repair and sometimes even a brand new laptop will be the only resolution.
