If you have discovered a problem where your laptop does not charge properly or worse, the battery has died and you can no longer turn your laptop on, does this mean the end for your laptop? Fortunately not because there are things you can do to get the laptop working again. Essentially there is a problem getting the power from the mains supply to the laptop. This can be caused by either the Compaq Laptop Charger or the DC Socket inside the laptop. If you have a niggling problem somewhere along this chain then the electricity will not successfully reach the laptop.
Any competent repair store can tell you which part of the chain is the problem within seconds. Maybe you could simply try another charger on your laptop to see if that powers it. If so a replacement Laptop Adapter is the cure. If the same problem exists with other adapters then it could well be a laptop fault. We would not recommend you try to do this repair at home as the repair involves removing the faulty DC Socket and re-soldering a replacement part back on. Any damage to the motherboard can leave you with an irreparable laptop that will only be fit for the scrap heap. With a brand new DC socket the power will be able to flow to the motherboard as it was designed to and the battery will receive the charge it needs.
